3 Most important things to learn so that you too can be Photogenic (yes it can be learnt)

3 Most important things to learn so that you too can be Photogenic (yes it can be learnt)

Every day I have clients coming to the studio who feel that they are not photogenic and they are coming to me because they know that my specialty is helping bring out peoples inner beauty.   There are parts they like about themselves but they are masters of focusing on the bits that bug them.

So I reverse that and we focus on those amazing parts of you.  The parts that set you apart from the crowd.  The things that make you beautifully unique.  The rest is softened into the background.

I work your assets.  I tease your Mojo out to the surface.

The vision of A La Mojo Studios is to create a Mojolution.  A revolution where everyone in the world can easily identify what makes them amazing and they are not afraid to master it and celebrate it.
Well if you think you are not photogenic then you will struggle to celebrate visually who are  are and what makes you special.   So one of the things that I help you with is learning to be photogenic.
Now I am not sure if you consider yourself to be photogenic or not.  But if you cringe a bit when someone pulls out the camera I might have something for you here.

1. Double Chins ruin a photo and are the easiest fix in the book.

Mandi Lynn, a Master Photographer with the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography is an internationally award winning photographer and stylist whose work has been featured in Vogue Italia and in International Photography Magazines. Her work has been features in exhibits… which makes her sound all posh and stuff but really she is just a cheeky, playful, down to earth farm girl who happens to be epic at turning peoples inner beauty into fine art. Mandi’s goal is to give you an experience where you will have your eyes opened to your mojo, your spark, your secret sauce of awesomeness. She wants to help ignite a change in your life where you see how amazing you are right down to your core and cheer you on to start really bringing it out in the world. When that happens it is a beautiful thing to behold and it is why she does what she does.

If you haven’t gotten a copy of my double chin cure you can get it here.
It is a technique that is so simple you just have to master it.

2. Being Camera shy is usually from having been traumatized by incompetent photographers in the past.

From mom wielding a camera barking “smile pretty!”, to your friends posting unflattering pictures of you on facebook .   There are techniques of knowing where to aim the camera, how to work with light, and how to relax people so that their images portray real versus fake emotions.  Don’t feel bad if you haven’t had good luck with images…you have probably been surrounded by amateurs…at least where photography is concerned.   Getting beautiful authentic images of yourself is an artform.  With a master photographer it can be achieved with a super expensive camera or an iphone…it is more about the skills than the tools.  So if your friend has a flash camera but you still feel like you look horrible in the images it isn’t your fault…it is their lack of skills in coaching you and using their flash camera.   I have been studying the art of making people look relaxed and gorgeous for over 15 years and have spent many thousands of dollars on continuing education to get even better.  I never stop learning.     Most of the work that I do in a session is helping you to unlearn bad habits.  An awkward way that you learned to hold your head, getting past the mask of the fake smile that you have been taught to put on since you were in nappies.  Learning to be photogenic is more about unlearning.  Unlearning hating on the bits that are not your favourite and instead…

3. Knowing your assets

Everyone who comes into the studio has something that is uniquely stunning about them.   Every one.  This has never varied.
The trick is to identify it and highlight it.   So what is it for you?  Your nose.  Your eyes, the nape of your neck, your jaw line, your beautiful legs.  Your hair.  What is it?  This is part of your Mojo.  Just the surface of it but part of it.  So lets feature it.  Highlight it and then if there are parts of you that are not your favourites we will keep them subtly in the background.  This can be done with camera tricks, beautiful styling, clever makeup, and photoshop if need be.  It is how the stars do it… so why don’t you?
Here is the main trick.  If you like something pull it towards the camera.  If you want to hide something push it back.  Obvious?  Yes.  But I can tell you that 99% of people don’t do it properly.    Have a little bum that you want bigger?  Rock it closer to the camera.  Have a bum like mine?  Put your weight on your back foot and shift it away from the camera.   Bobs your uncle instant 20kg difference.
